BEAUFORT SEA BOREHOLE GEOTECHNICAL, GEOLOGICAL, AND GEOCHEMICAL DATA

U.S. Geological survey Geotechnical Investigation, Beaufort Sea, Alaska-1979 USGS Data Set AK 17718

Data Announcement

Geotechnical, geological, and geochemical data from 20 coreholes drilled in February and March of 1979 in the joint State/Federal Sale No. 71 area have now been provided by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) * for public dissemination.

The purpose of this study is to help identify hazards to petroleum exploration and production in the lease sale area, as well as to provide subsurface control for geophysical data in the region. The data were gathered to provide geotechnical data for preliminary engineering design of structures and to supply other types of analysis needed for tract evacuation and selection. Rotary drilling, sampling, and testing operations were performed by Harding-Lawson Associated, Anchorage, AK for the USGS.
