Core Data from the Deep Sea Drilling Project

WDC for MGG, Boulder Seafloor Series volume I *

Acknowledgments

The Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP) was an international study of the global oceans supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the governments of the former Federal Republic of Germany, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Data on this CD-ROM were collected and compiled by the DSDP from 1968 through 1987 under the auspices of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the science operator of the DSDP.

The National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) salutes the DSDP staff for their excellent work in compiling and organizing this enormous mass of information, which made production of this disc possible. NGDC acknowledges the efforts of Lillian Musich, and the following DSDP data management specialists: (in alphabetical order) Steve Bearman, Thomas Birtley, Donna Hawkins, Barbara Long, Don Marsee, Barbara Pinkston, Trudy Wood, and Peter Woodbury. Special thanks are due to Peter Woodbury for his additional assistance in modifying files for the original DSDP CD-ROM data set.

NGDC and the collocated World Data Center for Marine Geology and Geophysics, Boulder (WDC MGG) produced the original version 1.0 DSDP CD-ROM data set in 1989 with support from the Joint Oceanographic Institutions, Inc. (JOI), U.S. Science Support Program (USSSP) through a contract with the U.S. National Science Foundation. NGDC thanks the many researchers who contributed their time and expertise to assist NGDC in data quality control and preparation for the original DSDP CD-ROM set.

Both the original version 1.0 DSDP CD-ROM data set and this revised CD-ROM were produced by the World Data Center for Marine Geology and Geophysics, Boulder and its host organization, the Marine Geology and Geophysics Division of the National Geophysical Data Center, National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce.

Programming for data quality control, indexing, and the user interface for the original version 1.0 CD-ROM set was performed by Mr. Christopher Lambrecht of NGDC. Dr. Peter Sloss of NGDC wrote the original version 1.0 Macintosh user interface. Data reformatting, and programming of the HTML interface for the current CD-ROM were performed by Mr. Travis Stevens of NGDC. NGDC geologist Carla Moore supervised design and production of both CD-ROM sets.
