Central Pacific Ocean, Marshall Islands. Chain bag dredge. Field description: basalt

Lithology/Mineralogy: igneous (extrusive/volcanic), basalt
Comments: 4 buckets: dredged from apparent terrace below probable reef edge on SW side of Sylvania Guyot. RD49-1 - 5 buckets basalt, some grey with rusted olivines, some rotten to brown and crumbling, all coated with 1m to 5cm Mn crust. 4 buckets discarded. One 1/2 cobble removed for study. RD49-2 - 4 buckets basalt/limestone conglomerate. Several generations of conglomerate within conglomerate. May be to distinct types in these buckets. Some pieces are closer to a basalt breccia with all angular, pebble size, brown clasts. 1 bucket of mostly Mn crusts discarded. 6 2-3 cm thick slabs removed for study.
