Central Pacific Ocean, Marshall Islands. Chain bag dredge. Field description: basalt
1 :
Lithology/Mineralogy: igneous (extrusive/volcanic), basalt
Comments: 3 buckets: RD61-1 - one large boulder grey basalt with olivine (altered and unaltered) and pyroxene (?) phenocrysts. Several fractures filled with calcite, one large fracture may have foraminiferal sediment. Also recovered one bucket of smaller basalt pieces. Mn coatings were <1cm and abraded. All pieces were somewhat rounded. RD61-2 - one buket of small (5-20 cm) pieces of breccia with basalt clasts. Most pieces had very little matrix, 3 had white foraminiferal matrix.
